- is fabric that doesn't let the wind through. They are very useful for keeping your warm. Even though they may be thin and not very warm on their own, windproofs keep in all the insulating air trapped by inner layers of clothes, which otherwise gets blown away. Fabrics are made windproof by weaving them very tightly, so that the gaps between the threads are too small for air to pass through at speed.
